How to join one of our teams
The Rotherham Schools Select Football Association is a prestigious District Football Association composed of 19 elite boys' and girls' teams, selected from the most talented footballers attending schools within the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough.

Each year, around April, we announce trials for these teams, which take place between May and June to select all our squads for the upcoming season.
This is a highly anticipated event in the local football calendar, drawing attention from schools and clubs across the region.

All current players must also retrial each year, ensuring that the selection process remains fair and continues to attract the finest football talent in the area.
This rigorous approach helps us maintain our high standards and uphold the honor of representing Rotherham at the district level.

Nominations are open to all confident footballers who attend a school within the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council catchment area. The opportunity to trial for Rotherham Schools Select is a significant one, offering young footballers the chance to showcase their abilities on a broader stage.

The selection process includes up to two trials, as well as potential trial games, all overseen by three independent selectors.
These selectors are professionals well-known within the football community, including scouts who work within professional clubs and academy structures. Their expertise ensures that only the most deserving players are chosen.​​
Representing Rotherham Schools Select Football Association is an honor that sets players apart from their peers.
Our squads differ from traditional grassroots teams in both ethos and expectation. We are not just looking for any footballer, but the best in the region. We're looking for players who can represent Rotherham with pride and excellence.​
​Demand for places is usually very high, and if large numbers of players sign up, cuts are likely to be made after the first trial.
This competitive environment ensures that those selected are truly the top footballers in the district.

From these trials, two representative squads will be formed: a 1st Team and a Development Team.
Being chosen to represent your school district is a prestigious achievement that highlights a player's talent and dedication.
Importantly, representing Rotherham Schools Select does not prevent players from continuing to play for their grassroots teams or professional club academies, allowing them to gain even more experience and exposure.
